BARBIZON AND FONTAINEBLEAU (FULL DAY)
The Kings and artists' countryside

60km south of Paris, the landscape of cereal fields is replaced by beautiful forest. At the end of the 19th century, the Barbizon village located at the edge of the Fontainebleau forest became the refuge of artists: painters, sculptors and writers looking for a better lifestyle to that of Paris and closer to nature.

The nearby chateau of Fontainebleau was a hunting house for the French Kings. The castle was completely restored by Francis I during the Renaissance period, and was later a favorite spot with Napoleon.

Program of the day: At Barbizon, we visit the Auberge Ganne, the inn where the artist used to meet. We continue with a visit of the Barbizon village by the houses of celebrated artists such as Theodore Rousseau, Jean-Francois Millet and Robert-Louis Stevenson. Free time for lunch in a cafe, a creperie or a local restaurant.

At Fontainebleau, our guide will take us through the gardens of the palace, the Royal and Napoleon apartments recently restored. Free time to stroll in the gardens.
